Orc Player Class (Update)

The new issue should be arriving in your mailbox!

There were some small omissions for the Orc Class:

Under Weapon Training, add the following to the end:

Orcs may wear any armor that fits.

Under Rage, at the end of the second paragraph, add the following:

Any damage taken is reduced by the DR amount, e.g  an Orc with a Rage value of 9 reduces all damage from attacks by 2 while they are raging. The damage can never go below 0.

As an added bonus, you can find a custom character sheet for the Orc here:

The first run has SOLD OUT! (Which is awesome) But don't fret, more are on the way! (Which will include the omission and some tiny fixes.)

  1. Anyone know how the DR mechanic works for the Orc class?

    1. Derp! DR, or Damage Reduction, is something some of us that played 3e or d20 systems take for granted. Any damage from a single attack is reduced by that amount. For example, an Orc with a Rage value of 9 reduces all damage from an attack by 2 while they are raging. The damage can never go below 0 (attacks can never add hps.)

  2. I just purchased Crawl #5, so I could take a gander at the Orc PC Class and possibly add it to the list of playable options for my group. I like the Class, but one thing puzzles me. It seems the Orc has no specified skill/ability that his Luck modifies. Every Class from DCC Core and the classes from Crawl #6 have a Luck modified skill. Am I missing something?

    1. Good question. So, yep. It's missing. I'll ask the author, and reply back with something. Do you have any suggestions?

    2. Well, off the top of my head, he could simply make the Intimidation bonus be derived from Luck rather than level. That way, in true DCC fashion, Orcs with poor Luck scores could end up being crap at Intimidation. My concern, though, is with skills being not so important in DCC, doing this may end up being a bit of a wash. Luck could also be applied to the Natural Gore Attack, making it like the Warrior's Luck modifier to one specific weapon. I will look more into it once the two year old goes to sleep.

    3. Ok, only other things I could come up with that seemed appropriate for an Orc were 1) Luck mod could apply towards the Critical Hit tables (yes, all PCs apply their luck score to Crit tables, but this would be like the rule for the Warrior's Arm result on Table 1-2, meaning it could stack) OR 2) The Luck mod could apply to the number of rounds the orc has to be healed before bleeding out after 1st Level.

    4. Hi Jonathan,

No, not missing anything. I failed to take that into account when I originally made the Orc. I think, rather than just granting the same abilities as Warriors/Dwarves (Luck mod applies to certain weapon, can cancel critical fumbles), I would take a different approach.

Luck: In the midst of their Rage, some Orcs land exceptionally well placed blows. An Orc may burn a point of luck to re-roll a single damage die after it has been rolled. If they wish to re-roll multiple damage dice, they must spend additional luck points. No die may be re-rolled more than once in this manner.

    5. Vanguard,
It was your baby to begin with, so you're the final say. I was just asked for suggestions, so I gave some. However, I did have at least one offering that was not "just granting the same abilities as Warriors/Dwarves."

    6. Yep, thanks guys. I opened it up for suggestions, and I have to say I like LOVE the idea that Luck affects damage. I'd go with that.

    7. Jonathan,

Wasn't trying to sound condescending with that comment as it was more meant for myself. I appreciate the suggestions! By all means, use whichever ability you feel is best suited to your campaign.
